80 ml grinding bowl made of zirconium oxide (ZrO2)
+ 100g x 1 mm Ø ZrO2 grinding balls
Feed quantity:
10 g
Feed Size:
d50<3,7 µm; 100% <25 µm
Additive:
+ 40ml water
Grinding time:
2 h
Final fineness:
d50 < 502 nm
Comments:
Amount of water has been chosen to prepare motor oil like viscosity for best grinding results.
To avoid overpressure, we ground the sample in steps of 3 minutes, followed by a programmed pausing time of 10 minutes. After several cycles, the outside temperature of the bowl should be checked (remain below 80°C); grinding time or programmed pausing time might be readjusted afterwards.
Because of missing Mie parameters for your kind of sample, calculation of particle size distribution below 1µm will be more imprecise. True particle size distribution could be finer as found with Fraunhofer calculated results.
After 60 minutes of grinding, a d50 < 873nm has been detected (see meas. no. 685 on separate page). After 120 minutes of grinding, a d50 < 502nm has been detected (see meas. no. 764 on separate page).
It is still possible to increase the grinding time or to change to smaller ball diameters (e.g. 0,1mm) for a better endfineness.
