TiSi2, Titansilicid

*1: after grinding of 5 minutes the surface of the bowl reaches a temperature of 113°C. So we grinded only for 5 minutes and cooled down the grinding set about 10min in cold water until the surface was <50°C. Within the 5th step of grinding the lit opened by pressing the sealing into the keyway to avoid an explosion of the bowl (it only happens when the pressure in the bowl is higher as approx. 20bar). A small amount of isopropyl alcohol / TiSi2-mixture escaped. It inflamed explosively and a flesh left out of the ventilation slots.

Tungsten carbide has a too high impact energy to grind TiSi2. Therefore we stoped a further grinding. We will send the rest of the sample which has not been used back.
It is only possible to grind this material with ZrO2 grinding set (see report no. 080288 from 21.10.1008). The impact energy is lower, that meens the density (g/cm³) is only 5,7 not 14,9 (WC).
