80 ml grinding bowl made of hardmetal tungsten carbide (WC)
+ 30x 10 mm WC grinding balls
Feed quantity:
40 g
Feed Size:
d90 < 25 µm
Additive:
+ 10 ml water
Grinding time:
60 min
Final fineness:
d50 < 0,46 µm d95 < 1,0 µm
Comments:
Abrasion of hardmetal tungsten carbide use to build higher pressures by grinding with water, we will recommend using organic solvents with high boiling points to minimize risk of over pressure.
To be on the save side, we ground the sample in steps of 1 minutes, followed by a programmed pausing time of 9 minutes. This way, bowl can chill and formation of pressure will be reduced.
After a total grinding time of 60 minutes, the desired fineness of d50 < 0,5 µm has been reached with the used 10 mm Ø grinding balls.
It should be possible to speed up the grinding process, when a ball change to e.g. 3 mm Ø will be performed after 10-15 minutes (we recommend grinding with minimum 20x bigger balls as present particle size).
