For a coarse comminution of sample, we recommend using a Jaw Crusher PULVERISETTE 1 Model I. With crushing jaws made of hardmetal tungsten carbide, a much longer durability will be possible. |

We like to mention that a huge amount of different samples have been ground with our jaw crusher in the past year. Probably you will find traces of other metals, which typically might not been found. You can find the elemental analysis of each material which uses to be available for the jaws and support walls on our homepage. With standard geometry setting, particles will get ground to ~ 6 mm thickness in gap position 2.0. The maximum length of particles use to be a bit > 12 mm.
This trial has been repeated with sample # 61 as well. For sample # 61, it took 12 seconds until the sample has been ground.

Samples 31 and 27 got ground with gap position 1,5. It took about 16 seconds to grind sample 31; the sample 27 needed 38 seconds until the total pieces has been comminuted and felt into the collecting vessel.
After grinding , it has been observed that a few pieces have been attached to the crushing jaws by magnetism.

With smallest gap setting in standard geometry, samples use to pass the gap between the jaws with a thickness of up to 4 mm.
We ground the samples # 20 and 24 with this setting. It took 48 seconds and 39 seconds until the samples have been ground completely.
All samples have been packed separately.
After grinding, it has been recognized that the sample might damage (in form of scratches) the jaws which use to be made of tempered steel. See separate photo page where we used the switched jaw to demonstrate possible damages.
It also has been observed that some sample pieces have been sticking on the surface of the jaw and needed to be removed with a scraper.
For a daily usage, we would recommend using jaws (and / or lateral support walls made of hardmetal tungsten carbide) for a longer durability.

Fixed crushing jaw made of tempered steel. The polished line (where the pen uses to mark in the left of the picture) might be the area where intact tablets of the cast iron sample will get pressed together. On two positions, it appears that a small layer of tempered steel has been scratched down (marked with the yellow circle). |
||
On the movable jaw, mainly sticking samples have to be removed with a screw driver. Because the lower area of the movable jaw uses to be scratched, a possible deformation cannot be judged properly. |

The jaw crushers from our application laboratory use to be equipped with lateral support walls made of steel, Jaws use to be present in several other materials. We hope that the combination of jaws made of hardmetal tungsten carbide (WC) and support walls made of tempered steel will show an adequate grinding result.
Like in result 1 mentioned, we please to check the homepage for elemental analysis of the available jaws and support walls of PULVERISETTE 1.
With gap position 2.0, it took 10 s for sample 28 to get ground. Sample 56 needed 12 seconds until all particles felt into the collecting vessel.
Particles with a thickness up to 5-6 mm can be found. |

The remaining 2 samples have been ground with smallest gap of standard geometry. It took 18 seconds for sample 35 and 21 seconds for sample 18 to get ground.
After grinding, no magnetized particles have been attached to the jaws. No pieces of residue stuck on the jaw surfaces.
Also the surface of the jaws just have just shown “polished” lines where the pieces felt into the grinding chamber. Scratches could not been spotted after the 4 pieces have been fed.
