Grinding trials have been performed with our Universal Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 19 as desired. All samples use to be fluffed up as expected. Most suitable appears to be trial 3 with 2 mm trapezoidal perforated sieve cassette. |

For the usage of the standard hopper, sample should be ground to < 3 cm stripes. To prevent hand insures, we recommend feeding short (ca. 20 cm) stripes and wearing hand protecting cloves. This is counting for all further grinding trials too.
Feeding will be done piece wise. After 50 seconds, all sample has been fed. Typical grinding stops within a total grinding time of 60 seconds. Afterwards, as usual for leather sample, sample has been ground to fluffy material. Because the biggest standard sieve cassette has been used, a few particles have been found with ~ 4-5 mm length. On request, also special manufactured sieve cassettes with larger openings are available. But we are guessing that even without a sieve cassette, leather will be ground very fluffy. After grinding, only a bit of residue use to be compressed in front of fixed knife no. 2., sieve cassette and rest of knives are mainly free of residues, a grinding of higher amounts is still possible.

Sample has been fed within 90 seconds. After 2 minutes of grinding, the grinding process has been interrupted. As usual, sample got ground to fluffy material. A higher amount of residues with the used 0,5 mm sieve cassette is common. Typically for leather, much higher amounts of sample use to be attached to the fixed knives. We are quessing that 150 - 200 g of sample might be grindable before the fixed knives need to be freed of sticking sample. An optimum grinding result might be achieved with a 2 mm sieve cassette.

Opened grinding chamber after 2 minutes. Bit of sample is loose inside the grinding chamber. Higher amounts of residues use to stick to the chamber (hopper and in front of the rotors and the fixed knives). A grinding of much higher amounts is not possible. |

With a sieve cassette of 2,0 mm trapezoidal perforation, all sample got ground to fluffy material. Only a small amount of sample use to lie in front of the fixed knives.
A grinding of higher amounts is still possible. For a daily grinding of sample, we recommend using the V-cutting rotor and fixed knives made of hardmetal tungsten carbide for a longer durability.
