For a continuous grinding, we recommend using the Jaw Crusher PULVERISETTE 1 Model I for pre grinding. A fine grinding step with Disk Mill PULVERISETTE 13 will be required afterwards.
Start size of the Bentonite sample use to be up to 3cm. This use to be lightly too big for a constant feeding (< 2cm will be required). Sample transportation needs to be supported with a long pencil when funnel gets jammed.
For this, sample has been fed continuous with moderate speed. Several times, it has been necessary to mobilize jamming particles ( > 2 cm) inside of the feeding funnel.
If higher amounts should be fed, it is possible to feed even bigger particles to Jaw Crusher PULVERISETTE 1 for pre grinding to < 9mm. Afterwards, sample can slip directly into the feeding funnel of Disk Mill PULVERISETTE 13 when both machines will be mounted on the option rack.
After 160s, grinding chamber has been emptied. All sample has been ground to < 0,5 mm in one dimension. Depending on brittleness of sample length and width can be much higher. Only a very limited amount of ground particles will show a length of ~ 2 mm.
To determine the fineness, we sieved an aliquot with our Vibratory Sieve Shaker ANALYSETTE 3 Pro and a test sieve of 2 mm mesh. 100% of sample has been able to pass the test sieve.
After grinding, about 8 ± 3 g (also depending on physical properties of sample) can be brushed out of the grinding chamber afterwards. These samples use to stick lightly to the housing by electrostatic charge, or are lying loose on the fixed grinding disk.
We like to mention, that we use to grind different kinds of customer samples in our application laboratory, also the housing of the Disk Mill is not coated with plastic (optional available, when metal contact should be avoided). For this, we please checking our homepage to see chemical analysis of grinding materials for checking, what kind of traces can be found inside of the ground sample.
Also a second grinding trial with disks made of tempered steel (as desired), has been performed within the same time.
