Both kinds of seeds can be ground with our Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14. For higher amounts of seeds, we recommend using the accessories for grinding large quantities or the optional sample exhauster system with cyclone separator. |

If a grinding of higher amounts is requested, the optional accessories for grinding large quantities or the active sample exhauster system with cyclone separator be used.
Sample has been ground very fine. Probably a faster feeding speed will be possible as well. Sieve ring and rotor use to be mainly free of residues. Probably sample can be ground with 0,5mm sieve ring as well (see result 2).
With a PULVERISETTE 14, usually 50% (vol.) of ground particles use to show a fineness of < ½ of the sieve rings openings. With 0,75mm, mainly particles < 0,375mm are expected to be found. |

Sample has been ground very fine. Instead of the first used sample of amaranths, flax might contain more fat or oil which leads to a sticking of ground sample at the side wall of the collecting pan. Probably a grinding with smaller sieve rings will not be possible without a previous embrittlement (see result 4).
If a grinding of higher amounts is requested, the optional accessories for grinding large quantities or the active sample exhauster system with cyclone separator be used. |

Pictures: | Flax seed sample might contain more oils or fats as amaranths. For this, ground sample use to stick lightly to the collecting pan. |

abortion - sticks | |

During feeding, grinding sound already indicates that the airflow has changed. We aborted the grinding process after ~ 20s and an amount of fed flax sample of ~ 19g. Ground sample has been attached in front of the used sieve ring and blocked its 0,5mm trapezoidal openings. To prevent a closing of small openings, probably a previous embrittlement with e.g. liquid nitrogen (N2) will be possible.
Without embrittlement, we don’t recommend using sieve rings of 0,5mm trapezoidal perforation for grinding the flax seed sample.

By using a coarse sieve ring with 1,0mm trapezoidal perforation, sample can be ground without any problems (just like 0,75mm). Sample is sticking a little less compared to result 3.
Sieve ring and rotor use to remain mainly free of residues. A grinding of higher amounts is still possible. Probably a few particles use to be ground to > 1,0mm because they can pass the sieve rings openings longitudinal.
