For a grinding of HDPE to < 400 µm as requested, we recommend using a sieve ring with 0,5 mm trapezoidal perforation. With this kind of sieve ring, majority of ground particles will should be finer as 250 µm.
By using a 0,5 mm sieve ring, no pre grinding step with coarse sieve rings (e.g. 1,5 mm) will be required, sample can be ground directly in one step. Also a previous embrittlement is not required by grinding this way.
For 20 g of sample, about 2,5 min use to be necessary for grinding. Afterwards, sieve ring and impact rotor use to be free of residues. Even higher amount of sample can be ground.
Pictures:
Sieve ring after grinding: no particles use to block the openings, a grinding of higher amounts is possible.
Opened grinding chamber: sample use to stick by electrostatic charge to the collecting pan. Rotor is absolutely free of residues; a grinding of higher amounts is plausible.
