After pre cutting the sample with our Power Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 25 (action 1), the sample can be ground to < 0,5mm with our Universal Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 19 in combination with the cyclone separator (action 3). An embrittlement with liquid nitrogen is not necessary. |

The sample contains two pieces with thicker metal wires (Ø almost 1cm) which will be too thick to feed to the PULVERISETTE 25 (can damage the mill!). These pieces might be split to smaller fragments with a wire cutter first previously.
The feeding has been done piecewise. Only one thicker piece of tire wasn’t grindable at the first trial. It blocked the rotor, the machine has been switched off and the piece has been removed. Eventually this kind of piece might get ground in a second trial. At least, a side cutter can be used for a previous comminution. The rest of samples have been fed without any problems. After grinding, a lot of wires have been separated and can be removed if desired. The fineness is small enough to feed the sample to our PULVERISETTE 19 (see actions 2;3;4). |

At start, 100g of pre ground sample have been fed within 2 minutes. After 2:30 minutes of grinding, an output of 89g has been found in the collecting glass of the cyclone separator. After 3 minutes, 92g have been found. The second batch of 50g has been fed after 3 minutes and the output rose to 142g after 4:30min. After finally 5 minutes of grinding, totally 143g have been found without any further production of output afterwards. It shows that 5-10g of sample use to remain inside of grinding chamber or cyclone separator. After grinding, rotor and sieve cassette are almost free of sample. Even higher amount will be grindable with the 0,75mm sieve cassette. A previous embrittlement with liquid nitrogen is not necessary. |

At start, 100g of pre ground sample have been fed within 4 minutes. After 5 minutes of grinding, about 80g of ground sample has been found inside the collecting glass of the cyclone separator.
After 5 minutes, further 100g (totally 200g) have been fed to the machine. After 8 minutes of grinding, about 173g of ground sample has been found. After finally 9:30min, a output of 183g has been generated. Afterwards, about 50% of the sieve cassettes openings are lightly blocked with sample. A cleaning could be done easily with a wired brush.
We don’t recommend using a 0,25mm sieve cassette for grinding of higher amounts of tire pieces. The sieve cassette might be cleaned with a wired brush every 200-500g of sample.
