Grinding is possible with Universal Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 19 as well as with Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14. |

A grinding of sample with this machine setting is not possible. Most of the sample remains inside the grinding chamber. Possible the usage of the optional sample exhauster system with cyclone separator will improve the grinding result (see result 2). |

The openings of the used sieve cassette remain free of residue. A higher amount of pre ground sample remains loose on top of the sieve cassette and can be removed easily by vacuuming with a soft brush.
We would recommend using a less fine sieve cassette for a grinding of higher amounts.

Even without the optional cyclone separator, already 30 grams of ground sample have been found in the collecting vessel of the machine after 10 seconds.
A bit of sample use to remain inside the grinding chamber. Partly loose and pre ground on top of the sieve cassette, partly sticking lightly by electrostatic charge. We are guessing that a grinding of higher amounts of sample might be possible.

With the optional cyclone separator, the grinding chamber will be completely free of residues. Only electrostatic charged sample use to stick below the sieve cassette, some residues might be left in the cone shaped separator. Even higher amounts of sample can be ground this way. |

Maximum 3 pieces of collagen should be fed simultaneously. Else, grinding sound uses to get very harsh (rotor speed will be reduced and mainly shearing force between rotor and sieve ring will comminute the pieces).
Within 130 seconds, the complete sample amount got ground. The sample appears to be much finer compared to the grinding results with Universal Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 19. Mainly, sample which will be ground with the Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14 will be finer as half of the openings size of the used sieve ring. With 0,5 mm trapezoidal perforated openings, a d50 < 250 µm is expected to be found.

In our last trial, we wanted to testify the grindability of sample with a planetary mill.
As expected, it has shown that the sample uses to be too ductile to get ground by impact force. The sample just gets discolored. Bowl and ball surface appears to be ‘fatty’ and polished.
A grinding is not possible by using a planetary mill. Best grinding result has been achieved with our Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14 in previous trial.
