Pre crushing can be done with a Jaw Crusher PULVERISETTE 1 Model I. A dry grinding is possible with our planetary mills until sticking of sample occurs. |

A feeding of pieces up to 60mm can be done without any problems. For bigger pieces, we also offer Model II where up to 95mm pieces can be fed (with higher throughput).
After 5 minutes, all sample became pre ground to < 15mm.
A grinding of higher amounts is still possible.

After pre grinding in result 1, sample will be used for fine grinding with this trial.
For a grinding of higher amounts, up to 4x 500ml bowls can be used for a simultaneous grinding with Planetary Mill PULVERISETTE 5 classic line.
After 2 minutes of dry grinding, sample is sticking stronger to bowl and balls.
This uses to happen after the majority of particles reached a fineness of < 20-30µm. Interacting forces between fine ground particles will become bigger as their own g-force. Therefore, particles will stick to each other and just become compressed by the used grinding balls. These clusters of particles also contain bigger particles which will not be ground any further too.
After sticking, we determined achieved fineness by sieving an aliquot with our Vibratory Sieve Shaker ANALYSETTE 3 Pro. Desired fineness has been achieved by 46%.
It is possible separating desired fraction by sieving of sifting and proceed grinding the coarse fraction to improve the grinding result.
Also moisture will cause a rapid sticking of sample. For this, a pre drying step might improve the grinding result as well (see result 3).

Also moisture will cause a rapid sticking of sample. For this, a pre drying step might improve the grinding result.
With our last trial, we wanted to testify the grinding result when sample becomes dried previously. For this, sample has been given into an incubator at 80°C for 2 hours. Afterwards, 150g of sample has been used with our 250ml bowl to check the fineness when sticking will occur. If sample use to contain crystal water and is not temperature sensitive, higher temperatures will be recommended for drying.
Sample started sticking stronger after a dry grinding time of 10 minutes. An aliquot has been used for sieving with our Vibratory Sieve Shaker ANALYSETTE 3 Pro. It has shown, that the pre dried sample could be ground to almost 75% < 45µm until a sticking occurred.
It is still possible separation desired fraction and proceed grinding fine fraction to improve the grinding result. |
