After embrittlement, sample can be fed to a Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14. Also a grinding with a Vibratory Micro Mill PULVERISETTE 0 is possible when sample will be covered in liquid nitrogen.
Original pieces have been placed in liquid nitrogen to embrittle the sample previously. With soft gum, sample will smear between rotor ribs and sieve ring.
Sample got fed into the feeding funnel of the machine and got ground within 10 seconds.
With PULVERISETTE 14 in general, ground particles will have a mean size which correlates to the half of the trapezoidal perforated openings. With a 0,5 mm (500 µm) sieve ring , a particle size of d50 < 0,25 mm (250 µm) is expected to be found. With embrittled sample, we expect that sample will be ground even finer.
After grinding, fine gum powder use to be found in the collecting pan of the machine. Sieve ring and impact rotor are mainly free of residues.
For intensive cleaning, all particles can be dissembled without tools and can be washed with warm water.
