With a start size of 60 mm, the present pieces use to be too big for a direct grinding with e.g. Disk Mill PULVERISETTE 13. A pre crushing is required. For this, we used the Jaw Crusher PULVERISETTE 1 Model I in our first trial. With Model II, up to 95 mm long pieces can be fed for pre grinding.
The complete amount of 5 kg of sample has been ground in smallest gap position to < 8 mm within 5 minutes.
The Model II with its wider grinding chamber might need about 3-4 minutes for the same amount of sample.
The pre ground sample is small enough for feeding to the Disk Mill PULVERISETTE 13 (see result 2).
2 kg of pre ground sample have been used to demonstrate a fine grinding with Disk Mill PULVERISETTE 13. With a gap setting of 0,5 mm, it took exactly 2 minutes until all sample has been ground.
Afterwards, we checked the present fineness by sieving an aliquot with our Vibratory Sieve Shaker ANALYSETTE 3 Pro and a 500 µm mesh.
Already 92 % of sample use to pass a 500 µm mesh.
To achieve 100 % < 500 µm, still smaller gap setting can be set.
