With an original start size > 2 cm length, the tooth use to be too big for a direct grinding. A pre crushing step will be required. We placed the sample into a plastic bag and used a hammer for pre crushing to < 3 mm.
This size should be adequate for a grinding with 20 mm Ø grinding balls.
All sample has been ground for 3,5 minutes. The desired d50 < 150µm has been fulfilled. Sample has been packed. Even higher amounts of sample can be ground.
80 ml grinding bowl made of zirconium oxide (ZrO2)
+ 5x 20 mm Ø ZrO2 grinding balls
Feed quantity:
0.4 g
Feed Size:
< 3 mm
Additive:
+ water 3 ml
Grinding time:
3 min
Final fineness:
d50 < 50 µm
Comments:
After pre grinding analogue result 1, second sample has been ground in suspension. Because of the lower amount of sample, much finer result could be achieved in shorter time (particle size distribution has been checked with our Laser Particle Sizer ANALYSETTE 22 MicroTec).
